Introduction

I've been wanting to get into car modding as a hobby/art for years. Now, I finally have the autonomy to start pursuing this endeavor in full swing (albeit, not so much the time, as it were; but as you get older, you start to realize that time is never enough - it always has to be carved out each and every day for yourself). I must say, I'm beyond thrilled. This has been a dream of mine ever since I was a wee little lad; in fact, legend has it that my first word was a word I made up, ("pamé"), to represent "car", and that has come to be nickname of sorts for me in Old Country.

This has been a long time coming, so I'm excited to get started. I will certainly need to start with a small scope and build up my projects from there. I wish I had had time to get started with this blog in grad school, I could have kept up with my lovely Jelly Bean

1993 Ford Escort // Hatchback 2D

Say what you will about it, that little devil was purchased for $1000 in cash (at a 33% discount negotiated over the phone pre-viewing, mind you 😏) and supposed to last me for a couple of months - 3 tops. It was the cheapest way to learn to drive stick without ruining a new-ish car. Not only did it last the entire year, but it survived through the worst winter that Indiana had ever seen - you may have heard of it; does "Snow-pocalypse" ring any bells? At the end of my time with the Jelly Bean, I didn't have the heart to sell it, so instead I donated it to NPR. That would have been a wonderful project car to catalog. There were certainly a number of fixes that I needed to provide for it.

Well, so that's out of the picture. I've also expanded my taste to something more....exotic. How about we start with something like this?

2009 Audi A8 quattro

Like so many things, it's not what is outside but what is inside, that counts. And inside is a V8 with 350-hp, and upgrade from the 335 of prior year models, outputting 325 lb-ft of torque. I really can't even imagine how that will feel like to handle as my own car, but I better be sure to temper just how much I allow myself to get carried away. To quote a line from an episode of real life, delivered by a good friend of mine, "Let's just...see what happens."

I'd like to use this blog as a means of cataloging my experiences with modding and tinkering, including successes and failures, lessons learned, and of course adventure.

Let's where this road leads.
